Work In Progress: Masthead

This is the masthead I managed to come out with in today’s lesson, I needs to be improved slightly but overall I am pleased with what I have done as I feel this word in that font really stands out and will look well on a rap/grime magazine.

Music Magazine: Front Cover Idea

This is my initial idea for the front cover of my music magazine, the header will be right at the top and will essentially say something about the magazine and will hopefully catch the audience's eye. (The footer has a similar job). The main image will be of the artist and is directly in the middle of the page and the biggest part on the magazine. Firstly because that month is all about them. Secondly to show who people should look out for in the future. My masthead is also one of the largest things on the magazine, this is so people can clearly see what the magazine is called and so it can stand out on a shelf which contains lots of magazines. Also on my front cover is the artist's name. This is because he is new to the industry and not many people will know him. In addition I have cover lines which hint about what's inside the magazine as this will help people understand if they will like this magazine or not, also a section which gives some facts about the artist which could result in the audience relating to the artist, plus this will help the to understand the artist a bit more.

Music Magazine: Contents Page Idea

This is my initial idea for my contents page. The masthead is bold and located in the top left this is to help get my magazine get noticed and for it to stand out. In the top right is the price of the magazine, the date the magazine is published and the publisher of the magazine this is simple information that the audience may want to know. Down the left hand side of the contents page is some pictures of the artist this is to help the identity of the artist get more known. In the middle of the page is information on what you will find on each page of the magazine, this is to help people go the sections that they might want to read more than others. Also on the page is a QR code which will allow people to enter competitions and win prizes. Also found on the contents page is a short message form the publisher that aspiring magazine producers may want to read and find out how they can become a music magazine producer. Plus some information like contact details and where the HQ is located. In addition there is a section which tells you where all the upcoming festivals will be held and how you can but tickets. Finally in the bottom will be what social media sites you can find the magazine on.

This is my initial idea for a flat plan, it is very simple and may change over time. It includes the front cover, adverts, interviews and the contents page.

Questions I Plan To Ask My Artist

Questions I Plan To Ask

Is there anyone you are collaborating with anyone in your album?
What makes your album good?
Who inspired you to start making music?
Why do you want to be an artist?
Where there any distractions away from music?
What do you like to do in your free time?
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
How did you feel when you got signed to a record label?

Notes On Photography

Basic Photography Knowledge

The studio will contain a white Backdrop and the model must stand 5-6ft away from the back of the backdrop otherwise their body will camouflage into the white backdrop. Also no food is allowed in the studio as the equipment I would be using is very expensive. The set up includes 3 bowens flash lights and is knows as a three point lighting set up, one of the lights are called a snoot light which helps light up the back of the models head so you can clearly see the models hair and the other two are known as soft boxes and these are you to help light up the models face. Going into more detail about the soft boxes, these can be used to give a greater effect on the model. For example: one side of the models face can be lighter than the other. On the side of the soft box you will see a dial from 1-6. With this you can set one to 3 and the other to 1.5, the side of the models face with is closer to the 3 dial will be brighter.

Camera Settings

The camera is very easy to understand you can either use auto focus or manual focus. Auto focus is the easier of the two as the camera will simply beep once you are in focus. However if you use manual focus you have to adjust the lens until you are in focus which could be time consuming.
